Golf Business Develpment, Feb/Mar 2009.
Like any trade journalist, I've been on more than a few factory visits in England in my time. Actually that's not strictly true. Not factories. I should say assembly plants or distribution centres, for how many golf companies actually make things in a factory here? Practically zero, which may explain why the British flag of business is flying at half-mast at the moment.
Not so Stewart Golf; the Union Jack has pride of place on each box that contains these high-end powered golf trolleys ready for delivery. The flag is flown because 90% of these products are made in the UK with pride. Designed and built by Brits and put together in a modern factory that fits, Tardis-like, into a picturesque listed stable block in leafy Gloucestershire, near Stroud.
I visited the Stewart HQ as neat lines of partially built F1 Lithiums were awaiting final assembly... there was a certain buzz around the place. While Stewart Golf has nothing to do with a certain Jackie Stewart, the brand gives off a feeling of Formula 1 style innovation and panache, with the highest standards in design a priority.
